Offered through Libby Public Schools, this skiing experience is available to grades 5-8. Students are provided free loaner skis and transportation to the Flower Creek Ski Trails once a week during January from 3:45 – 5:00. Besides the 50-75 participants we have a a small army of volunteers to assist. There is also instruction on winter recreational topics such as survival, animal tracking, ice fishing as well as a dry land training and familiarity with ski gear. Think loud, noisy and smiling faces!
This opportunity is possible because of the Kendeda Fund and the many volunteers of the Kootenai Nordic Club.
The Kootenai Nordic Club holds a Ski Rental Day for the public in early December. Our Club owns a robust inventory of quality classic skis, boots and poles in various sizes. Participants receive a package for the ski season at a very affordable price. Rental and return dates and times will be posted on this website, sent out in email to club members and announced on our Facebook page.
Our Developmental Team is a component of the Endurance Club in Libby Public Schools and is designed to expose youth to a diversity of ski experiences. The Developmental Team is made up of people, ages 6-18, eager for additional instruction in the sport of cross-country skiing. Led by our Club President and former collegiate biathlete, Ben Scott, these skiers are exposed to classic and skate skiing, and an introduction to biathlon. The practices are informal and designed to be fun. Practices are usually held after school from about 4:00- 5:30 pm at Flower Creek Trails. This program is currently in its early stages with an eye toward the development of a Libby cross-country ski team to compete in the many club races in the region: Whitefish, Seeley Lake, Sand Point, Fernie B.C. and Kimberley B.C.
Rental returns will be March 23, 2024 from 10 AM to Noon at the warming hut.
